Dubois Replacement Replicas
Naturalis Biodiversity Center
We’re proud to have had the opportunity to contribute to the De Vroege Mens (Early Human) exhibition at Naturalis Biodiversity Center.
With the original Dubois fossils returned to Indonesia, the exhibition now features high-detail replicas.
The replicas were printed in resin (SLA) using provided 3D scans, ensuring that even very fine details, such as small engravings on the shell, remain visible.




Mined Metals Visualisation Puzzle
TNO
Commissioned by TNO, we designed and built a large, interactive scale-model puzzle that visualizes the amount of metals mined worldwide each year. 🌍⛏️
The puzzle was showcased during their Inhouse EMT Unit Day event.
It consists of multiple parts, making it easy to transport and stored for future events.
Partly 3D-printed, partly made from sturdy cardboard and wood. Everything fits perfectly together, creating an interactive and educational experience.




Homonin & Basal Synapsid
Hortus Botanicus Leiden
This past February, Hortus botanicus Leiden and Oude Sterrewacht in Leiden opened their new exhibition: Planten & Planeten.
A new exhibition where science, art, and nature come together to tell the story of life on Earth.
Ex Situ Labs contributed to this exhibition by performing a 3D reconstruction of the Ophiacodon skull -an early ancestor of mammals- and by creating the replicas of both this Ophiacodon and the skull of the early hominin "Sahelanthropus tchadensis".
2024




In October of 2024, Naturalis Biodiversity Center opened its new exibition "The Herd".
A whole space dedicated to five Triceratops and their story.
Before Ex Situ Labs was launced, we worked at Naturalis to contribute to this facinating project.
We were responsible for both the 3D reconstruction of all five individuals and the 3D printing of said reconstructions, and the fossil preparation itself at Naturalis.

In August 2024, Natural History Museum Maastricht unveiled its new Mosasaur exhibition, featuring Bèr, a Prognathodon discovered in the small cretaceous ocean that once covered Maastricht and Limburg approximately 70 to 66 million years ago.
Prior to the start of Ex Situ Labs, Colijn Dijkers played a role in the reconstruction of this marine reptile. He was responsible for the complete 3D reconstruction and 3D printing of Bér's post-cranial skeleton at Naturalis.
Bèr's first live sized reconstruction is currently on display at NHMM.
